Reflecting After 40 Days of Sat Kriya Sadhana

I have been really, really avoiding updating my blog about this. Sometimes, when there is so much to write and go over, it’s hard to imagine how to organize all of the information, how to put it into the right words. There was a lot of transformation from Day 32 (the last time I wrote an update) to Day 40. I felt like every day from Day 35 or so to Day 40, new things were coming up to be released.

It was interesting to process so many painful assumptions and also realities, only to feel lightness and freedom in their stead. I feel like from Day maybe 20 until Day 35, things were so much more subtle… And then it was almost disorienting because of how much was coming up again.

On Day 40, I experienced a shift, which was completely unexpected. In my first 40-day Kundalini Yoga sadhana, I didn’t really experience anything on Day 40. So I didn’t expect anything to be different for my Sat Kriya practice, but I definitely felt a release and a change, maybe a little guidance from my higher self, as well.

And then yesterday, which was Day 41, my practice seemed to go by a lot quicker and more easily than it had until now. I have yet to do any Sat Kriya today, but I hope the ease persists!

Something I realized in the final days of my Sat Kriya sadhana is just how important the “relaxation” component of the kriya really is. The guidance from 3HO is that if you do Sat Kriya as your entire kriya, you should then relax for twice the length of time as the kriya. I didn’t quite follow that guidance for most of my sadhana… I would do 11 minutes of Sat Kriya followed by 11 minutes of relaxation, and then I’d go about my day/night.

However, it became clear that while Sat Kriya figuratively kicks up the emotional and memory dust from our body, the “relaxation” portion (in a meditative easy pose or in Savasana, laying down) is where we really process and let go of what has come up. Sat Kriya creates the awareness whereas that time to relax is the golden opportunity to then clear what’s coming up! It’s essential, and looking back, I feel that it’s actually better to do a shorter sadhana, but make time for the double time relaxation, as opposed to a longer practice with no relaxation.

I don’t know how long I am going to keep going, but for now, I continue to include those 11 minutes in my daily practice! It’s tedious, and it would be easier to stop, but I guess I’m hooked to the healing, increased awareness, and just the shifts I’ve experienced so far?

Let me know what your experience of Sat Kriya has looked like if you’ve tried it! I know it’s different for everyone, and I love to read other perspectives on the practice.

  1. […] I’ve justified my post–where to begin! About a day or two after my last update on my 40-Day Sat Kriya Sadhana, I actually stopped the practice. It was a completely intentional ceasing of the kriya. I stopped […]
